Sakamkam Castle is one of the famous historical castles in the Emirate of Fujairah. It is a witness to the Emirate Fujairah’s nobility and history, in general and Sakamkam region, in particular.
Sakamkam fort gained its importance from being a place where people of the region meet to discuss all matters related to their lives, and the celebrations of holidays and occasions were held in front of the castle square that surrounds it. The castle was built of local materials consisting of black stones, mud, palm fronds and bare on a mountainous hill overlooking the Sakamkam area and the surrounding areas. It was used for a number of purposes, including people’s meetings, guarding the area, and defending its farms and homes, as it was once surrounded by a number of ancient homes of people, a number of which still exist until the present time.
