The fortress of Awhala is located in the village of Awhala situated about 30 kilometers.
The historical and archeological importance of the region has been marked soon after a recent discovery made by an archaeological team from the University of Sydney in collaboration with the Department of Antiquities and Heritage in Fujairah in January 1996, that has revealed of a fortress dating back to the Iron Age and that was built on Awhala fort ruins.
